Daviston Alabama Parks

Welcome to Horseshoe Bend National Military Park located on the banks of the Tallapoosa River in Daviston, Alabama.

Park History: In March of 1814, the Army of General Andrew Jackson (later President Andrew Jackson) departed from Fort Williams on the banks of the Coosa River and traveled 52 miles through the forest for three days and set up camp six miles north of Horseshoe Bend on March 26. On March 27, Jackson sent General John Coffee and 1,300 soldiers (700 mounted infantry and 600 Cherokee and Lower Creek) downstream to cross the Tallapoosa River and surround Horseshoe Bend. Jackson took the rest of the 2,000 soldiers, mostly militia from Tennessee, into the peninsula and began to attack the Red Sticks Log Brigade. By dusk, they had wiped out nearly 80% of the Red Sticks brigade.

For the lover of the outdoors Horsehoe Bend National Military Park boasts hiking trails, fishing opporunities, and more. Come out and explore.
