Welcome to the Kofa National Wildlife Refuge nestled a sprawling preserve of pristine desert located at the foot of the Kofa and Castle Dom mountains in southwest Arizona. Refuge History: In the early 20th century many mines were dug in the mountains located inside this refuge. The most notable of these mines was the King of Arizona Mine, from which the word Kofa is derived. Kofa National Wildlife Refuge was established in 1939. During World War II General George Patton used Kofa in military training exercises. Wildlife: Kofa National Wildlife Refuge helps protect the home of numerous wild critters including bats, bighorn sheep, kangaroo rats, pocket mice, mule deer, rabbits, coyotes, foxes, zebra-tailed lizards, Colorado River toads, and many others. Please treat their home with respect. For the lover of the outdoors this refuge boasts numerous hunting opportunities and so much more. Come on out and have a blast!
