San Rafael Ranch State Natural Area

Patagonia, Arizona

Welcome to Arizona's beautiful San Rafael Ranch State Natural Area located near the town of Patagonia in the San Rafael Valley Region not far from the Mexican border. Before this place became a state park in 1999 it was a working cattle ranch, the ranch owners and many local residents worked from the mid to the late 1990's to put this area under state protection. Some of the resident wildlife include bobcats, cougars, coyotes, and many others and scientists believe that the region is home to more species of mammals than anywhere else in North America.
