Welcome to William R. Mason Regional Park located in Irvine, California.
Park History: Part of the land that is now William R. Mason Regional Park was once part of the Rancho San Joaquin which was granted by the Mexican governor Alvarado to a man named Jose Sepulveda in 1842. In 1864 the ranch, which was nearly 49,000 acres in size, was purchased by the firm Irvine, Flint, Bixby, and Company. This same firm purchased an additional 59,381 acres of land nearby and in 1876 James Irvine Sr. Purchased all of his partner's shares to become the only owner of the ranch that was over 100,000 acres in size. The park was originally known as University Park but was named in honor of William R. Mason, President of the Irvine Company from 1966 until 1973 when he died.
