Salton Sea State Recreation Area
Welcome to California's beautiful Salton Sea State Recreation Area located on the shores of one of the world's largest inland seas near the town of Mecca. This large salt lake is 45 miles long and 20 miles wide and sits 227 feet below sea level and was formed in 1905 by floodwaters of the Colorado River. Come out and spend a day on the lake on a hot summer day.
Boating: Some people call the Salton Sea the fastest lake in the United States because the salinity gives the boats more bouyancy and the below sea level elevation makes the motors more efficient. Come out and explore the lake and do a little water-skiing.
Fishing: Due to the sea's salty waters there are not many species of fish. Most people come here to catch Talapia.
Camping: Salton Sea State Recreation Area has 5 campgrounds with over 200 sites some of which have full hooksup for electricity, water, and sewer. Come out and stay a few nights.
Over 30,000 peole visit this park each year. Come out and be one of them.
