Welcome to Lakeside Park located on the shores of Lake Merritt in Oakland, California. The lake itself is the site of the nation's oldest wildlife refuge and is a great place for bird-watching. People can also rent non-motorized watercraft at this park including sailboats. This park was first established in 1867 when it's previous owner Samuel Merritt generously donated this land to the city.

This park was RecPlanet place of the day on November 13, 2015.
