California State Parks

Welcome to California's Shasta State Historic Park, an abandoned ghost town leftover from the mid-19th century California gold rush days. By the year 1852 over $2.5M of gold had been mined in the town and by the end of the year the town was destroyed by a fire but rapidly rebuilt the following year. This town was even once the site of the county courthouse as far back as 1861. During the roaring 1920's many concerned local citizens fought hard to preserve what was left of the town and in 1937 it finally became a state park.
