Located in Santa Barbara, El Presidio de Santa Barbara State Historic Park preserves the last Spanish military outposts built along the California coast. The Park has two restored buildings of the original Presidio that you can explore, while the rest are reconstructed to match.

Founded in 1782 because of the Revolutionary War, the outposts were used as Spanish defenses against attacks and invasions. Today you can explore the historic buildings and learn about Spanish history. Take a self-guided tour and walk the land as you lay eyes on the aged buildings and archeological finds. Note that this park is home to the oldest standing residence in California!

If you’re a history buff or enjoy Spanish architecture, this park is a must. There is a small fee to enter, but children 16 and under are free. Also, if you’re a student or a senior, be sure to ask about a discount!

To contact the park office please call 805-965-0093.
