Welcome to the location of the largest expanse of remaining ancient redwoods on the planet, Humboldt Redwoods State Park. The forests nearby were once heavily harvested for their timber resources in the early 20th century but groups of concerned citizens fought hard to save the oldest trees and succeeded when this park was established. It has grown in size over the years.
