Welcome to Rabbit Mountain!

Park History: Rabbit Mountain's geological history makes it unique to the Boulder County Park system. Over 140 million years ago dinosaurs roamed this land in what was a tropical lowland of rivers, swamps, and lagoons. To this day there are seven natural springs on the mountain which also forms part of the divide between the St. Vrain and Big Thompson drainage basins. The Gold Rush of the 19th century brought white settlers to the region. The first person to own the property was a man by the name Columbus Weese. His successor, Jack Moomaw, was the first ranger of Rocky Mountain National Park. Moomaw sold the land to Boulder County in 1984, forever preserving it for future generations.

Today the park boasts over 5 miles of multi-use trails and visitors are allowed to bring dogs on a leash. Several birds of prey can be sighted in the park including Golden Eagles. Come on out and explore.
