Welcome to Legion Park! It is a small yet scenic park where one can view the Rocky Mountains and continental divide to the west as well as the Hillcrest, Leggett-Owen, and Valmont reservoirs to the east. Common wildlife sightings on the one mile trail include foxes, prairie dogs and various birds of prey.
Park History: Legion Park was once known as Goodview Hill for obvious reasons. The Native American tribes of the Arapaho, Comanche, Cheyenne, and Kiowa took advantage of this view by using it as a lookout point. In the early 20th century it was used as a working ranch owned by a prominent local businessman by the name of John Empson who later deeded the land to the county in 1917. In 1932, Boulder County and the American Legion Post 10 constructed a memorial in the park in honor of US soldiers who served in World War I. In 1976 Boulder County Parks and Open Space took over the management of the park. Dogs are allowed at this park so come on out and explore and enjoy the scenic view!
This park is also home to the Gerald Stazio Softball Fields which are 7 lighted fields that host many tournaments.
This was RecPlanet place of the day on September 29, 2016.
