Welcome to Mancos State Park located in Dolores County Colorado not far from Mesa Verde National Park and the San Juan National Forest.
Park History: The first known inhabitants of Mancos State Park were Native Americans of the Ancestral Puebloan peoples. In the 17th century the Spanish arrived in the region seeking the path from Santa Fe to California. They dominated the region for the next 200 years. When gold and silver were discovered near Silverton, the local economies in the region began to boom as loggers, miners, ranchers, and farmers began flocking here. Mancos State Park was established in 1987.
Flora and Fauna: Mancos State Park helps protect the home of numerous plant and animals species. Some of the plants that grow inside the park boundaries include Rocky Mountain junipers, Douglas firs, snowberries, and gambel oaks. Some of the wild animals who call this place home include porcupines, squirrels, black bears, mule deer, bobcats, mountain lions, coyotes, and foxes. Please treat their home with respect.
For the lover of the outdoors this park boasts over five miles of trails, a boat ramp, 32 campsites, and so much more. Come on out and explore!
