Welcome to Mesa Verde National Park located near Mancos, Colorado. This park helps protect the ancient dwellings of the Ancestral Pueblo tribe who lived her for over seven centuries. Over 4,000 known archeological sites including 600 cliff dwellings are located inside the park. Mesa Verde National Park was established on June 29, 1906 by President Theodore Roosevelt. Mesa Verde is Spanish for Green Table.
Flora and Fauna: Mesa Verde National Park helps protect the home of numerous plant and animals species. Some of the plants that grow inside the park boundaries include rabbitbrush, sagebrush, Utah Junipers, Colorado pinyon pines, prickly pear cacti, Gamel Oaks, and yuccas. Some of the wild animals who call this place home include black bears, coyotes, foxes, porcupines, bats, mice, weasels, raccoons, squirrels, mountain lions, bobcats, Great horned owls, Red-tailed hawks, and golden eagles. Please treat their home with respect.
