Arapaho National Wildlife Refuge

Activities:
Hiking

Welcome to Arapaho National Wildlife Refuge nestled in an intermountain glacial basin at an elevation of 8,200 feet near Walden, Colorado. Refuge History: Arapaho National Wildlife Refuge was established in 1967 in order to help offset the loss of wetlands in the Midwest and provide habitat for migratory birds. Ever since the first lands were purchased the Fish and Wildlife Service has worked hard to restore the refuge's wetland habitats. Wildlife: The grassland meadows, willow riparian areas, and wetlands of Arapaho National Wildlife Refuge help protect the home of numerous wild critters including elk, mule deer, moose, prairie dogs, ground squirrels, rabbits, badgers, beavers, porcupines, minks, weasels, wood frogs, garter snakes, and tiger salamanders. Please treat their home with respect. For the lover of the outdoors this refuge boasts a nature trail, a river stocked with trout, and so much more. Come on out and have a blast!
