Welcome to Osbornedale State Park located in Derby, Connecticut.

Park History: Long before the arrival of the first European settlers the land that is now Osbornedale State Park and the surrounding region served as prime hunting ground for the Paugussett Native Americans. In the 17th century some of the earlier white settlers began to arrive in the region including a fur trader named John Wakeman. As more settlers began to arrive they eventually purchased land from the local tribe in exchange for clothing and cooking utensils. The new settlers used the land for agricultural purposes and due to their close proximited to the Naugatuck and Housatonic Rivers, they turned the area into a trading port. Some of the land was even used for silver mining in the late 18th century. In 1956 the granddaughter of John W. Osborne, one of the regions successful industrialists, gave the land to the State of Connecticut and Osbornedale State Park was established.
