Welcome to Connecticut's beautiful Wadsworth Falls State Park. This park boasts multipurpose trails, a swimming hole, picnic tables, and much more. Come on out and explore!
Park History: The Coginchaug River which flows through the park and makes the falls was an important river for powering the mills of industrialists of the 18th and 19th centuries. One of the local industries was a pistol factory built by Jehosophat Starr in 1794. This factory built many weapons and was even operated by Simeon North, the man who developed the interchangable parts systems used in weapons during the Civil War. In 1892, just two years before the factory reached it's centennial, it exploded.
Wadsworth Falls was named for the man who fought hard to preserve it, New York National Guard Colonel Clarence Wadsworth who moved to Middleton. Wadsworth established the Rockfall Corporation to fight for the park's protection and in 1942 their goal was reached when 267 acres were given to the State of Connecticut.
