Welcome to Mashamoquet Brook State Park located near Pomfret, Connecticut.

Park History. The land that is now Mashamoquet Brook State Park was ruled by the Native American Chief Uncas long before the first European settlers arrived in the region. The word Mashamoquet is a Native American term that translates to "stream of good fishing." One of the first white settlers in the region was a man named John Sabin who set up an outpost that eventually grew into a small town. A big piece of the land became public domain in the late 19th century when the Daughters of the American Revolution purchased the Wolf Den Parcel. In 1924 the State of Connecticut purchased the Wolf Den Parcel at the 1899 price and the land was eventually merged with the Saptree Run and Mashomoquet Brook parcel to form the present day Mashomoquet Brook State Park.
