Welcome to one of the first National Parks in the United States, the beautiful Rock Creek Park, an urban wilderness inside the nation's capital Washington D.C. Aside from protecting plant and animal habitat from the suburban sprawl of Washington D.C, Rock Creek Park also boasts the historic remains of forts built by the Union Army during the Civil War. This land first became a park in 1890.

Wildlife: Rock Creek Park boasts a diversity of wildlife that includes white-tailed deer, coyotes, raccoons, squirrels, and red-tailed hawks. Please treat their home with respect.

For the lover of the outdoors Rock Creek Park boasts 25 tennis courts, multipurpose trails, non-motorized boat rentals, an 18 hole golf course, and much more. Come on out and explore.

This was RecPlanet place of the day on June 16, 2017.
