Ralph E. Simmons Memorial State Forest

Welcome to Ralph E. Simmons Memorial State Forest located in Nassau County, Florida on banks of the Saint Mary's River and the border with Georgia. This forest was once known as Saint Mary's State Forest but in 1996 she was renamed in memory of a man who was a member of the St. Johns River Water Management District Governing Board who worked hard to help this land become a state forest.  

Flora and Fauna: The woodlands and wetlands of Ralph E. Simmons Memorial State Forest help protect the home of numerous plant and animals species. Some of the plants that grow inside the forest boundaries include Florida toothache grass, hooded pitcher plants, and purple balduinas. Some of the wild animals who call this place home include white-tailed deer, otters, foxes, squirrels, bobcats, gopher tortoises, and wild turkeys. Please treat their home with respect.
