Ellie Schiller Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park
Welcome to Florida's Ellie Schiller Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park located near Homosassa. This park has been a popular place since the early 20th century when it was a train stop where people would picnic and go for a dip in the springs. A Chicagoan named Bruce Hooever once called it "the most beautiful river and springs in the world." Today it is a small wildlife preserve where one can see manatees, alligators, bobcats, black bears, and even the endangered Florida Panther. The Springs, once prime fishing ground for Native Americans for centuries, remains a great place to visit and enjoy the scenery. Unfortunately swimming is no longer allowed.
