Welcome to the smallest National Forest in the state of Florida, the Oceola National Forest, a flatwoods oasis of cypress swamps and low pine ridges located in north Florida not far from the Okefenokee Swamp.

Forest History: Before this land belonged to Uncle Sam it was very heavily logged and burned. In 1931, the Osceola National Forest was established by Presidential proclamation and since that time much work has been done to restore the forest to a state of nature. The concept of prescribed burns was developed in the 1940's in order to help control forest fires. In the 1960's the Forest Service broadened it's scope from timber management to include protection of wildlife habitat, protection of watersheds, and recreation, making them "Lands of Many uses." Sound management has left the Osceola National Forest rich in natural and cultural resources.

Flora and Fauna: Osceola National Forest helps protect the home of numerous plant and animals species. Some of the plants that grow inside the forest boundaries include pines, cypress, and ferns. Some of the wild animals who call this place home include black bears, deer, raccoons, squirrels, alligators, wild turkeys, and eagles. Please treat their home with respect.

For the lover of the outdoors this forest boasts over 23 miles of the Florida National Scenic Trail, numerous boat launches, and so much more. Come on out and explore.
