Twin Rivers State Forest
Welcome to Twin Rivers State Forest located in north Florida near the Georgia State Line.
Forest History: The forest itself consists of 14 noncontiguous tracts that were purchased over a span of several years by the Conservation Recreation and Lands Program, Save Our Rivers Program, and Conservation 2000 Program. The confluence of the Suwanee and Withlacoochee Rivers has historically been an important point of commerce. Both rivers were major steamboat routes transporting passengers and freight in the 19th century.
Flora and Fauna: The natural communities of Twin Rivers State Forest include floodplains, swamps, and sandhills that help protect the home of numerous plant and animal species. Some of the plants that grow inside the forest boundaries include river birches, American elms, sweetgums, bald cypresses, longleaf pines, turkey oaks, post oaks, and water hickories. Some of the wild animals who call this place home include white-tailed deer, bobcats, beavers, otters, alligators, quails, and wild turkeys. Please treat their home with respect.
For the lover of the outdoors Twin Rivers State Forest boasts two hiking trails, canoeing on the Suwanee and Withlacoochee Rivers, and so much more. Come on out and explore!
