Don Carter State Park

Don Carter State Park is one of the newer State Parks in the Georgia system and the first State Park to be located on the shores of Lake Lanier, a 38,000 acre reservoir located northeast of Atlanta where they had some of the events in the 1996 Olympic Games. This park has places where people can sleep both indoors and outdoors. There are eight cabins that can be rented out for prices of as high as $160 and as low as $110 a night. The park also has 44 developed campsites as well as a dozen primitive ones. The park has four picnic shelters that can each be rented out for a price of only $45. 

Some of the parks other non-reservable amenities include over three and a half miles of multipurpose trails (2 miles of which are paved), boating access to Lake Lanier, a sandy swimming beach and much more. The man for whom the park is named is a well respected individual who worked for the Georgia Department of Natural Resources for nearly 30 years.
