Huleia National Wildlife Refuge



Welcome to Huleia National Wildlife Refuge, a 238 acre oasis on the banks of the Huleia River on the Kauai's south shore. Refuge History: For over 1,000 years, a sustainable agricultural practice known as Taro Farming was practiced in this region. This method of farming helped to feed the Hawaiian people as well as protect wildlife habitat. Wildlife. Huleia National Wildlife Refuge helps protect the habitat of 31 bird species. Please treat their home with respect. Due to the fragility of this ecosystem, this refuge is not open to the public.
