Old Kona Airport State Recreation Area
Welcome to Hawaii's Old Kona Airport State Recreation Area located in Kailua-Kona. In the beginning this airport was used for World War II fighter aircraft. When the war was over it was used for tourist aircraft. This place became a State Park in 1992 and has been a very active recreation area since. There are sections where the water is calm enough for swimmers, snorkelers, and scuba divers to enter. Some of the park's more terrestrial opportunities include a skate park, and several athletic facilities including a sand volleyball court.
