Backbone State Park
Welcome to Iowa's oldest as well as one of it's most popular and significant state parks, the magnificent Backbone State Park, first established in 1920 and located near Dundee. The Civilian Conservation Corps helped build the beautiful stone lodge.
Trails: Backbone State Park boasts over 20 miles of multipurpose trails for all seasons. Come out and do some exploring.
Camping: There are 125 campsites including 49 with electricity.
Fishing: Backbone State Park is known for it's magnificent trout fishing with the beautiful Richmond Springs producing up to 2000 gallons of water each minute. The sidewalk makes the fishing area very ADA accessible.
Climbing: When one thinks of rock-climbing Iowa is probably one of the last places that comes to mind, but Iowa Rock Climbing does exist and it's in Backbone State Park. The dolomite limestone formations provide for some very good climbing opportunities. It was the rock that helped the place earn it's name when a geological named Samuel Calvin called it Devil's Backbone.
