The Diggings

Fort Dodge, Iowa

Welcome to The Diggings in Fort Dodge, Iowa. This preserve was first established in 1968 when the land’s previous owner Susan Atwell, a local educator and conservationist, generously donated it to The Nature Conservancy. TNC ultimately donated the land to Webster County and though small in size this preserve has a diversity of trees (ash, maple, oak, and others) and beautiful blooming wildflowers in the spring. The interpretive hiking trail was brought to us by the local Eagle Scouts.
