Welcome to Maquoketa Caves State Park, a place that has drawn the interest of humans for many centuries and possibly longer. Native American artifacts dating back hundreds of years have been discovered in this cave. Sadly many of the parks milk white stalacites that hang from the cave ceiling were stolen by collectors over the years and only a few remain. The State of Iowa purchased the first tracts of this land in 1921 and over the years the Civilian Conservation Corps helped build many of the park's amenities.

Today this park boasts over six miles of trails, 29 campsites, and much more. Sadly a disease known as white-nose syndrome is taking it's toll on the nation's bats and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources has closed the caves to humans for the time being in order to help these magnificent flying mammals. But the park's other amenities are still open so come out and explore!
