Welcome to the Buffalo Creek Forest Preserve! This preserve offers over 4 miles of multi-purpose trails for hikers, bikers, and cross-country skiers alike.

Preserve History: The land that is now the Buffalo Creek Forest Preserve was once owned by the Popp family and was operated as a farm for dairy cattle, and later soybeans, corn, and wheat. The land was purchased by Lake County in several phases between 1978 and 1987 and today still plays an important role in flood control as well as restoration of the old prairies.

Today the preserve provides habitat for birds such as the eastern meadowlark and the bobolink. Please treat their home with respect. Come on out and explore.
