Argyle Lake State Park
Welcome to Argyle Lake State Park, a fisherman's delight located near Colchester, Illinois.
Park History: The old stage route between Galena and Beardstown used to pass through what is now Argyle Lake State Park. The region is rich in coal, limestone, and clay and many early settlers flocked here to mine those resources. In 1948, the State of Illinois purchased the land from local farmers and created the Argyle Lake reservoir, thereby establishing Argyle Lake State Park.
For the lover of the outdoors Argyle Lake State Park boasts miles of multipurpose trails, picnic areas, a 93 acre lake stocked with rainbow trout, bass, catfish, crappie, and bluegill, 86 campsites (All class A with electricity and showers), and so much more. Come on out and have fun.
