What was once the site of an operating quarry, is now the site of a popular Downers Grove neighborhood recreation area known as Gilbert Park. Located on the banks of Saint Joseph Creek the park was first established in 1948 and has long been used by many local baseball leagues. Other than it's lighted ball diamond the park also has paved recreation trails and a full basketball court. It is a good sledding hill on snowy winter days.
