Welcome to Moraine View State Recreation Area located near LeRoy, Illinois.

Park History: When Europeans first settled this region, they managed to peacefully coexist with the local Kickapoo and Potawatomi tribes. The woodlands helped to provide the settlers firewood, building materials, and protection from extreme winter weather. By the mid-20th century the heavily farmed countryside was seen to be in need of artificial manipulation and a water based recreation area for the growing population. In the late 1950's and early 1960's lands were purchased and a dam was constructed creating Dawson Lake. In 1975 the land was designated as the Moraine View State Recreation Area.

For the lover of the outdoors, this park provides numerous recreational opportunities including a swimming beach, a boat ramp, and several miles of multipurpose trails. Come on out and explore!
