Union County State Fish and Wildlife Area
Welcome to Union County State Fish and Wildlife Area, a sprawling preserve in the Lower Mississippi River bottomlands in Southern Illinois near Jonesboro.
Preserve History: The land that is now Union County State Fish and Wildlife Area was purchased by the State of Illinois in the late 1940's in order to provide refuge for migratory birds. Today, many thousands of geese come through here each year. The preserve also protects habitat for bald eagles, golden eagles, deer, and many others.
Recreational opportunities in this preserve are relatively restricted. It is day use only and hunting can only be done with a permit. The boat motors are limited to 10HP. Come on out and explore!
