Welcome to Middlefork Savanna Forest Preserve, an oasis of meadows, forests, and wetlands located near Lake Forest, Illinois.
Preserve History: Middlefork Savanna Forest Preserve was acquired in phases from 1989-2000. This land has been classified as one of the most important sites for biodiversity in northeast Illinois by the Chicago Wilderness society. The land was once part of a large glacial lake and helps protect the home of numerous bird and butterfly species and the Blanding's turtle. Please treat their home with respect.
For the lover of the outdoors this preserve boasts over four miles of multipurpose trails and much more. Come on out and explore.
