Snakeden Hollow State Fish and Wildlife Area

Victoria, Illinois

Welcome to Snakeden Hollow State Fish and Wildlife Area, located in Knox County near Victoria.

Preserve History: In the 1960's this land was the site of a coal mine operated by the Midland Coal Company. In 1987 the land was purchased by the State of Illinois and since then the State has worked with the Midland Coal Company to help restore the land making it the wildlife paradise that it is today. Recreational usage at this site is relatively restricted and groups of 25 or more must register in advance. All pets must be kept on a leash at all times. This is a popular hunter's and angler's destination. For those who have a fear of snakes, please take note that despite the preserves name there are no more snakes here than in any other area of the state. Come on out and explore.
