Pokagon State Park

Welcome to the beautiful Pokagon State Park located in Angola, Indiana.

Park History: This is one of Indiana's older state parks having been first established in 1925 as Lake James State Park but was eventually renamed in honor to honor the region's Native American heritage. Leopold and Simon Pokagon were father and son and two very notable leaders of the Pottawatomi Tribe. The park's lakes, like many in the region, were created by glacial retreat at the end of the last ice age thousands of years ago. Steuben County, in which the park is located, has more lakes than any other county in Indiana.

Trails: Pokagon State Park has miles of multipurpose trails for all seasons. In fact this park is considered to be Indiana's winter wonderland on snowy winter days. Lots of people come for cross country skiing and there is even a twin tobaggan run where people have reached speeds upwards of 45 mph.

Camping: Pokagon State Park has a large campground with 200 sites with electricity. Come out and stay the night.
