Van Riper State Park
Welcome to Van Riper State Park located on the shores of Lake Michigamme and the banks of the Peshekee River near Champion, Michigan.
This park boasts not only scenery and recreation, but also history. Not far from the park is the site of the first iron ore discovery in the State of Michigan in 1845 opening up a mining boom in this region. Remnants of the old mines can still be seen in and around the park today. In the nearby town of Negaunee is an iron mine museum.
For the lover of the outdoors this park boasts nearly 5 miles of trails, over 150 campsites (many with electricity and water), and a half mile long swimming beach. Come on out and explore!
