Palms Book State Park
Welcome to Michigan's unique and beautiful Palms Book State Park, home to what the Native Americans called Kitch-iti-kipi, which is the state's largest freshwater spring. The spring spurs out about 10,000 gallons each minute at a chilling temperature of 45 degrees farenheit. The springs are 200 feet across and 40 feet deep and there are various viewpoints where people can look down into the springs.
Park History: An old Native American legend goes that a chieftan was tricked into going into the springs by a woman who stole his heart. His canoe overturned and drowned while she laughed herself away back at her village. The springs was named in his memory. In more recent times the Civilian Conservation Corps built many of the park's facilities.
