Birch Lakes State Forest
Welcome to Birch Lakes State Forest, one of the smallest yet also one of the most fascinating State Forests in Minnesota, located in the transition zone between Minnesota's forests and prairies.
Forest History: The landscapes in and around Birch Lakes State Forest were carved out by glacial retreat at the end of the last ice age over 10,000 years ago. In 1959 the Minnesota State Legislature authorized the establishment of Birch Lakes State Forest and today this small forest serves as both wildlife habitat as well as occasional timber harvesting.
For the lover of the outdoors Birch Lakes State Forest boasts over seven miles of multipurpose trails, boat ramps, and much more. Come on out and explore.
