Lake Wappapello State Park
Welcome to the beautiful Lake Wappapello State Park located in southeastern Missouri's Ozark Country. The lake was named after a Shawnee Native American chief who lived in the region. In more recent times the Allison Family onwed the land for many decades from after the Civil War up until about 1938 when the reservior was created by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Come out and explore miles of multipurpose trails or do a little bird watching and maybe you will see bald eagles, blue herons, great horned owls, and many species of waterfowl. The lake has a healthy population of bluegill, catfish, bass, and many others.
Camping: Lake Wappapello State Park boasts dozens of campsites with electricity and water. Come out and stay a few nights.
Boating: Lake Wappapello itself is over 8,400 acres in size and thus there are no restrictions on horsepower. Come out and spend the day water-skiing.
Trails: Lake Wappapello Trail is nearly 13 miles long and is open to equestrians, cyclists, and hikers alike. There is all types of scenery as well as all types of difficulty. Come out and explore.
