Refuge History: Before the Tallahatchee National Wildlife Refuge was established the land was heavily used for agricultural purposes. In 1990, the refuge was established and since that time over 1,300 acres of land have been restored. Wildlife: The Tallahatchee National Wildlife Refuge helps protect the habitat of numerous wild critters including peregrine falcons, bald eagles, screech owls, barred owls, great-horned owls, red-tailed hawks, wild turkeys, ducks, geese, feral hogs, deer, raccoons, squirrels, rabbits, and many others. Please treat their home with respect. For the lover of the outdoors the Tallahatchie National Wildlife Refuge boasts numerous trails and awesome bird-watching opportunities year round.
