Chief Plenty Coups State Park
Welcome to Chief Plenty Coups State Park located on the banks of Pryor Creek near Billings, Montana.
Park History: Once named chief of the Crow tribe, Chief Plenty Coups was considered a man of war and then a man of peace. He became one of the first Native Americans to own and operate a farm in 1884 when he was given land from the Federal Government under the Indian Allotment Act. He managed over 300 acres, build a house, and opened up a general store. He passed away in 1932 at the age of 84. After his death, his widow's wish to have some of the land become a state park was granted. To this day the tribe still plays a role in the park's management.
Today this park helps protect Chief Plenty Coup's history and offers beautiful picnic areas as well as a half-mile trail. Come on out and learn some history and explore!
