Singletary Lake State Park
Welcome to North Carolina's beautiful Singletary Lake State Park located in the edge of the Bladen Lakes State Forest near the town of Kelly. Both the park and the lake are named for an 18th century landowner Richard Singletary. In 1936 the Federal Government purchased the land around the lake for a price of only $4.51 an acre and in 1939 it was made into a boy scout and 4H camp. It wasn't until October of 1954 when the State of North Carolina finally gained ownership. This park offers two camps that are ADA accessible and offer dining halls, restrooms, and cabins, Camp Ipecac with an 84 person capacity and Camp Loblolly Bay with a 48 person capacity.
Wildlife: About 15,000 years ago the land in this region was covered by water and when the water's receded they created what is known as a Bay Lake Ecosystem that provides a forest of pine, bay, and cedar trees that give habitat to creatures such as wild turkeys, white tailed deer, box turtles, carpenter frogs, and many others.
