Stone Mountain State Park
Welcome to North Carolina's Stone Mountain State Park, an oasis of forests and mountain streams located off of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Long before this land became a state park in 1969 it was settled by immigrants of English, Scottish, French, and German descent who built log cabins, farms, schools, mills, and churches. Today Stone Mountain State Park boasts a 600 foot granite dome, over 20 miles of rivers for fishing, rock climbing opportunities, and so much more. Come on out and explore
Flora and Fauna: Stone Mountain State Park boasts many thousands of acres and helps protect the home of numerous plant and animal species. Some of the plants that grow inside the park boundaries include dogwoods, oaks, blueberries, and mountain laurels. Some of the wild animals who call this place home include white-tailed deer, bobcats, foxes, raccoons, box turtles, whippoorwills, wild turkeys, and woodpeckers. Please treat their home with respect. All of the park's campsites are primitive and not developed.
