Long Lake National Wildlife Refuge
Welcome to Long Lake National Wildlife Refuge located on the plains of North Dakota. This refuge was first established as a bird refuge by President Herbert Hoover in 1932. Long Lake itself is usually a very shallow lake with the average depth only ranging from three to four feet. The lake’s shallow depths helps attract numerous bird species and Long Lake has been designated as a “Globally Important Bird Area.” Aside from birds this refuge also provides home to coyotes, badgers, skunks, foxes, and many others. Please treat their home with respect when visiting. Come on out and explore!
