Fort Kearney State Recreation Area
Welcome to the beautiful Fort Kearney State Recreation Area located on the banks of the Platte River near Kearney, Nebraska. This is a great place for bird-watching in the springtime because the world's largest gathering of carnes is in this region.
Fishing: Anglers will love the park's sandpit lakes that contain bluegill, catfish, largemouth bass. Lake number 6 is even stocked seasonally with rainbow trout.
Swimming Hole: The park's Lake Number 7 is a popular swimming hole on hot summer days. The beach has no lifeguards on duty so swim at your own risk and keep a close eye on children. The beach is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
Trails: What was once a segment of the old Burlington and Missouri Railroad is now part of a nearly 2 mile multipurpose trail that is very popular with hikers, cyclists, and even cross-country skiing in the winter.
Picnicking: The picnic area at Fort Kearney State Recreation Area has water fountains and grills so bring some meats for cooking.
