Hopatcong State Park
Welcome to New Jersey's Hopatcong State Park located on the shores of 2,500 acres Lake Hopatcong. This lake was first created as a result of the construction of the Morris Canal in the 1860's. The 90 mile canal was an important transportation route for steamboats carrying coal, zinc, and other materials. In the year 1866 alone over 880,000 tons of freight were transported via the canal. Today this lake is a popular recreation area for the people of northern New Jersey and New York City.
Boating and Fishing: The 2,500 acre lake is open to all types of watercraft from sailboats to motorboats. Come out and spend a day water skiing. Many anglers come here to catch trout, catfish, pickeral, and smallmouth bass.
Picnicking: All the picnic sites have grills so bring some meats for cooking. The picnic area is also located near the playground so that the kids can play.
