Bandelier National Monument
Welcome to Bandalier National Monument.
Park History: The legislation creating Bandalier National Monument was signed into law by President Woodrow Wilson in 1916. During the era of the Great Depression the Civilian Conservation Corps worked hard to build the park's facilities which include the lodge and miles of trails. During World War II the park was closed to the public and was the residence of Military Personell and scientists working on the Manhattan Project. Some of the first humans to occupy this region were Native American hunter-gatherers who arrived over 10,000 years ago. Around the year 1150 the Pueblos began to build more permanent settlements the remains of which can be found inside the park boundaries today.
For the lover of the outdoors this park boasts many miles of trails, numerous campgrounds, and so much more. Come on out and explore!
