City of Rocks State Park
At City of Rocks State Park, the name says it all. It boasts a large array of rock formations formed by volcanic ash 35 million years ago, only seven such places on the planet boast these types of rocks. Aside from it's unique geological history there is also a lot of human history and artifacts to be found in the park from the days when the Mimbres Indians roamed the land. Astronomers from all around come to this park to use the astronomical observatory and take advantage of Southern New Mexico's clear nigh skies.
The park's campground has 52 developed sites. To contact the park office please call 888-667-2757.
