Gila Lower Box Canyon
Welcome to the Gila Box Lower Canyon, a desert oasis roughly twenty miles north of Lordsburg, New Mexico.
Park History: In 1990, livestock has been prohibited in the canyon and many willows, cottonwoods, and other plants grew in their absence. This preserve is one of the top bird-watching destinations in the State of New Mexico and helps protect the habitat of hawks Bell’s vireos, cuckoos, and hundreds of others.
For the lover of the outdoors this preserve boasts canoeing rivers stocked with bass and catfish, trails, numerous campsites, and so much more. Come on out and have a blast!
